On October 7, 2025 six former U.S. Surgeons General — including Vivek Murthy — co-authored an op-ed demanding that “public-health misinformation” be restricted online, they framed it as a moral duty. But two federal courts have ruled that Murthy and the CDC violated the First Amendment by coercing social-media companies to suppress COVID-19 opposition.
