According to the BMJ report, the AAP’s 2023 childhood obesity guidelines—which recommend GLP-1 weight-loss drugs for kids as young as 12—did not disclose millions in pharma payments: $2 million in corporate sponsorships to AAP $293,400 in payments to AAP leaders $74,205 to guideline committee members The AAP claimed its review was independent, but BMJ evidence shows internal review and undisclosed funding. Critics warn this undermines trust in medical guidelines, raises concerns about drug industry influence, and highlights the need for independent trials and transparent policymaking.
